I am embarrassed to admit how much time I spend on Instagram. It probably totals over 2 hours a day. That’s a large part of my day that I dedicate to peering into other peoples lives and sharing my own! I ask myself all the time…why do I enjoy watching other peoples lives so much and why do I feel compelled to share my own?
After thinking about it, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s just human nature. To compare ourselves to others, to look to others for inspiration, to see if others have the same struggles as we do. Sadly, a lot of times we negatively judge other people’s lives as well.
Still, I love it. Instagram is a place for people to show their creativity when they may not have another outlet to do so. A place to let their voice be heard. A place to appreciate the beauty of the world. And a place that can make people feel a little less alone.
I follow so many mothers on Instagram that entertain me, inspire me, teach me, and make me feel like I am part of a community even if they don’t realize it. I love going on Instagram and seeing that I wasn’t the only mommy who got pooped on that day. Or who didn’t sleep the night before because her baby wasn’t feeling well. Or who’s obsessed with dressing up their children and taking pretty photos of them!
People are always saying social media is bad. And to an extent, I agree. If you use it to gage how much people like you, how important you are, or how your life measures up to others, it can be an awfully dark place. However, I also think the experience you have on Instagram depends on who you follow. If you follow people who make you feel like crap about yourself or your life, it will be a bad thing. If you follow people who inspire you and make you feel better about yourself and your life than it will be a good! Seems obvious, right?!
So, below is a list of some of my favorite mommy Instagrammers! They are all so different and I like them for different reasons. I enjoy taking a peek into their lives because they are not pretending. They are just being themselves. And that’s inspiring and entertaining!
Karla Reed (@karlareed)
My favorite thing about Karla is her outfits! I love watching her Instagram Stories explaining how she came up with an outfit and where she got certain pieces. I love how a lot of the time her baby girl is crying in the background or hanging on her. That’s real y’all! She also inspires me to put a little bit more effort into my what I wear every day. I would rather wear sweats if given the choice, but she makes putting outfits together look fun! I also love her honesty. She admits when she leaves out details of her life for fear of judgment and never pretends to be a perfect mother. As long as she keeps doing what she’s doing, I’ll tune in!
Eva Amurri Martino (@thehappilyeva)
The thing I love best about Eva is that she is so different than me. She is an actress who comes from a more privileged life than I do (her mother is Susan Sarandon!), she lives a big beautiful home, she’s tall and gorgeous, and I could go on and on about the ways we are different. Yet, she shows that even if you are blessed with a glamorous life, you experience the same struggles every mother does. She has shared her journey with postpartum depression and anxiety, her breastfeeding struggles, and the worst moment of her life when her baby boy had an accident and ended up in the hospital. I love that I can appreciate the beauty of her life and also relate to her struggles.
Jess Oakes (@positivelyoakes)
My favorite thing about Jess is that she always seems to be having the time of her life. I don’t think I have watched an Instagram Story of hers where she wasn’t laughing about something. Whether she’s shopping at Target, struggling to get her adorable baby girl to put shoes on, or pointing out a zit on her face, she always seems to find the joy and humor in everything. Coming from a person who is admittedly wound up a lot of the time, seeing someone just having fun with their life is inspiring to me. She also has a hilarious laugh and it makes me laugh with along with her!
Nicole Digiacobbe (@nicoledigiacobbe)
My absolute favorite thing about Nicole is her Instagram Stories of how excited her daughter gets when her husband gets home at the end of the day. It’s so freaking cute! Her daughter Olivia is the sweetest thing. I love how she films her answering questions and explaining things in her cute little voice. Another thing I like about Nicole is that her life seems realistic. Most of the time she’s just as home with her two little girls. Her life isn’t overly glamorous or showy. It’s relatable and think that’s what I like about her family most. Also, I love how she designed her home. That’s not why I follow her on Instagram, but still. Haha!
Steph Polleck (@steph_pollock)
I have 3 favorite things about Stephanie! 1) her adorable daughter 2) how she dresses her adorable daughter 3) how she feeds her adorable daughter. I wish I could just clone Olive’s (her adorable daughter) wardrobe for Lily. It’s the perfect mix of vintage, earthy, and feminine! I seriously love it! Also, she has inspired me to raise Lily to be vegan. Olive is always eating yummy fruits, veggies, and hummus and loves them! She shows that if you raise a child to love healthy food…they will! She definitely inspires me to live a healthier lifestyle. I also just learned that she’s a year younger than me! She seems to be a lot more together than I am for a 24 year old.
So there they are! My favorite mommy Instagrammers! Fellow mommy’s who inspire and entertain me on the daily. To all you mommy’s…thank you!
