In this post, I review the 10 must have baby items I keep in my bedside table. These are the items I use multiple times a day. Everyday! Most of these items are things normal people would keep in a changing table, but I don’t have one. So I picked the most convenient place I could think of.
I keep them all in my bedside table drawer for one reason. I am lazy. And in the middle of the night if I need any of these items all I have to do is lean over and open a drawer. Instead of walking across the room and leaving a (sometimes crying) baby alone on the bed.
1. Diapers
This one is obvious. I like to keep 8-10 diapers in the drawer at a time. Which means I have to refill about once a day. I like to use The Honest Company because they are the most natural disposable diaper I could find at a good price. However, I’m looking into switching to Bambo Nature. I here they are even more chemical-free than Honest Co! (read my post on natural baby products here)
2. Wipes
Another obvious one. I keep one pack of wipes in the drawer at a time. Not only do I use these for tushy cleaning, I also like having them handy for quick spit up cleaning as well! My favorite wipes are The Honest Co. They are a bit on the pricey side, but it’s so worth it to avoid the unnecessary chemicals in other wipes. I was using a different natural wipes brand, but hey were causing Lily to get a rash on her little booty. I am not sure what ingredient was causing the rash, but she doesn’t get any irritation with the Honest wipes. So I am sticking with those!

3. Baby Powder
I don’t use this every time I change Lily’s diaper, but I use it at least twice a day. Usually, if she is having a very poopy day and I feel like I’ve been constantly changing diapers and want to prevent irritating her skin. I was using Honest Co. Organic Baby Powder. But then they recalled it! Cue mommy freak out moment. So I trashed that and now I’m using Era Organics Honey Buns Baby Powder.
**Sidenote! Don’t forget to protect those precious baby lungs! When using baby powder, make sure it doesn’t fly around in the air and get inhaled by your baby! I don’t remember where I read this, but it never even occurred to me that it was something I needed to do. So I thought I would spread the word!
4.Diaper Rash Cream
So this item is actually going to make me a liar. Because I don’t use this every day. However, sometimes I use it multiple times a day. I use The Honest Company’s Honest Diaper Rash Cream. The active ingredient in it is zinc oxide, which basically just acts as a moisture barrier. I use this when Lily’s skin looks visibly red and irritated. I feel like it’s more soothing and effective than baby powder. Also, my sister swears by this Butt Paste. Just another good option if you’re looking for one!
5.
Lotion
Everyone probably already knows this, but I will say it anyway. Baby skin is extremely sensitive and delicate. It becomes dry and irritated a lot easier than adult skin. Which means applying lotion at least once a day is essential. I put lotion on Lily every morning whether or not she has bathed. I use it for her morning massage (good for stimulating her lymphatic and nervous systems!) The lotion I use is Babo Botanicals Moisturizing Baby Lotion. This is the most natural baby lotion I could find and it’s not super expensive. It smells great and I even us it on my own face!

6. Saline Spray
This is an item that I never would’ve thought I needed. But now I have become so reliant on it, I even sent my dad late at night to go get it when I ran out! So why do I use this? To clean out Lily’s nose! During the winter we turned on the heat a lot, which made the air in the house extremely dry. Result: A baby with hard boogies that blocked her ability to breath! As the weather has warmed up, we haven’t had to use it as often (we were using it more than twice a day!). Still, we use it daily to keep Lily’s nose nice and clear. A few squirts of Little Remedies Saline Spray and I have a much happier baby. Which makes for a very happy mommy!

7. Snot Sucker
This goes along with #6. Sometimes adding moisture to the nose just isn’t enough and you have to suck that snot right out. So if you really need to get the job done, I highly recommend the Nosefrida Snotsucker. I was initially weary of sucking snot from my baby’s nose. Like gross. But it has a filter that blocks the snot from entering your mouth. So it’s great!

8. Thermometer
I like to keep my baby thermometer in my bedside table for those quick panic moments. I have this fear of Lily getting a fever, so having a thermometer handy is essential for me. The thermometer I use is the Exergen Temporal Scan Baby Thermometer. It works fine, but the readings aren’t always consistent. I am actually looking into better options. If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments below!
9. Pacifier
I know there are many opinions on when/if babies should use pacifiers. And also what the correct age is to introduce them. However, it was and continues to be a real life saver for me. When Lily was a newborn it helped her to master the sucking motion which she struggled with a bit. And now it helps with her teething (she holds and chews it!) and helps her fall asleep. I always have a pacifier sitting on the bedside table. After trying out a few different natural pacifier brands, the one I like the best is Natursutten. They are an ugly color and not cute by any means. But they are chemical free and don’t smell like rubber like other natural pacifiers do!

10. Receiving Blanket
I don’t actually keep this item in my bedside table drawer. I hang it on my bedpost. It’s the newest design trend! But really. I received a million receiving blankets as gifts and I thought there was no way I could need that many, nor use them that often. Wrong! Turns out it was probably the most useful item I received. I use them when nursing to prevent my clothes from getting covered in milk. Or to clean the endless cycle of spit up and drool I deal with on a daily bases. I also used them when Lily was smaller as a light weight blanket. Really the possibilities are endless!
