Product Description
Pacidose. INVENTED by a Doctor. INSPIRIED by a Daughter. Up to 50% of babies are incorrectly dosed when administered medication due to inaccurate dosing mechanisms, techniques and rejection. Pacidose helps by ensuring your child gets the right dose of medicine without the fuss. A standard oral syringe allows for accurate measurements and connects Pacidose which looks a feels just like your child’s favorite pacifier. Pacidose has a narrow tube down the center of the nipple that prevents wasted medicine. Medicine is delivered to the back of the tongue, where there are fewer taste buds, decreasing the chance of rejection. To use Pacidose: • Measure the proper dose of medicine into the syringe, then check the amount again. If you have questions call your doctor or pharmacist. • Attach the oral syringe to Pacidose. • Position your child in your lap facing away from you. Introduce Pacidose into his/her mouth and after your baby starts to suck, slowly push the syringe plunger in. • Stop and make sure your baby is swallowing before giving more. • If your child has a difficult time with pacifiers and or medication, take the syringe off and dip Pacidose into another liquid. Let your child taste it and play with Pacidose under your supervision. Once Pacidose is a familiar object then attach the syringe and give medicine through it. From the Manufacturer: RINSE Pacidose and syringe with water. DO NOT use the dishwasher. NEVER leave Pacidose alone with your child. IT IS NOT a pacifier, it is a MEDICAL DEVICE. Discard if you see any signs of damage or weakness.

After posting this review, I was promptly contacted by the makers of Pacidose who profusely apologized for the item
Breaking and immediately sent me a replacement at no charge. I waited a little while before writing this review. I have now been using our new Pacidose for about 6 weeks, at least twice a day and I will say we have been very happy with it. Our son quickly learned how to use the Pacidose as a straw and suck down his medicine (when we first used it he had some trouble figuring out why liquid was coming out of his pacifier and how to swallow it without choking) to the point that we barely have to press the plunger to get his to take his meds. The newer model has proven to be more durable than the first and does not show any signs of breaking. Therefore I'm changing my review to 5 stars.

Our doctor had told us to try using a bottle nipple and syringing the meds into there. That worked great! If you want to save $15, just use a bottle nipple (without the bottle attached) and put medication into it as your baby is sucking on it!
But, eh, I wanted it to be a half of a step easier, so I spent the $15 on the Pacidose anyway. It is very slightly easier than the bottle nipple thing. The syringe slides into the pacifier so that liquid won't get lost if baby quickly turns her head or something like that. Once baby is sucking on the pacifier, you slowly syringe the meds into their mouth. The issue with this is that the provided syringe is a little jerky, so I find that I can't push the meds out of the syringe as smoothly as I'd like and I sometimes give her a bigger push than I meant to, which means that she might dribble some meds out of her mouth. It will fit over generic syringes though, so I will have to ask the pharmacy for extra syringes.
Lastly, because of the design, I do wonder how clean we actually get it when we wash it. The pacifier basically has a hole in it for the syringe to slide into, then it sort of narrows so that the baby is getting only a little spray of liquid at a time. There's not really a way that I've discovered to thoroughly wash the medication passageway.
Pros:
* Meds are a lot easier to give than our previous method of syringing into baby's mouth (caveat: only if your child takes a pacifier!)
* My husband and I always know if one of us has given our baby her meds because the Pacidose will be sitting by the sink, dirty, if it has been used.
Cons:
* Not sure how clean the pacidose is getting when we wash it due to design.
* The provided syringe isn't very smooth, so I feel like I jam too much at one time into my daughter's mouth.
* My daughter usually takes a Soothie pacifier and this is slightly differently shaped, so she is a little baffled by it.
